Calgary Roughnecks News Release

The Calgary Roughnecks snapped their two-game losing streak against the Ottawa Rebel this afternoon in impressive fashion, defeating the Rebel 26-16 at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Roughnecks were led by team captain Tracey Kelusky, who led the team with eight goals in the victory.

The Roughnecks jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead after one quarter, but the Rebel closed to within two goals by halftime, trailing by the score of 10-8. The second half was dominated by the hometown team, who erupted for 16 second-half goals. Lewis Ratcliff scored four goals to support the Roughnecks’ cause, while Kaleb Toth and Tyson Leies each chipped in with three. Jason Clark scored six goals in defeat for Ottawa.

“We felt like we had something to prove,” remarked Kelusky about the win. “Losing two on the road was tough to take, so we wanted to come out strong against Ottawa, and we did. Hopefully, this puts us one win closer to the playoffs, but we still have two big home games in front of us.

Despite the eight goals, this did not exceed Kelusky’s personal best. Kelusky scored 11 points on November 21, 2001, as a member of the Montreal Express, while facing off against the Roughnecks in Calgary. The Roughnecks were defeated that day 32-17.

10,603 fans took in today’s contest. The Roughnecks battle the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, April 5th, at 7:30, in a contest that will have playoff implications for both teams. Calgary concludes the regular season six days later against the Buffalo Bandits on Friday, April 11th, at 7:30.
