Calgary Roughnecks News Release

Calgary Roughnecks fans will have their first chance this weekend to see the club's high-profile off-season signings.

When the Riggers take to the Saddledome floor at 3 p.m. on Sunday against the Vancouver Ravens, at least four of the new faces will be in uniform.

The best known is Teddy Dowling (#16), the National Lacrosse League's fifth all-time scoring leader. He registered 11 points in Calgary's two games on the road against Vancouver and Toronto. Dowling was obtained from the Colorado Mammoth in a straight swap for Shawn Cable.

When Owner Brad Banister picked Taylor Wray (#44) as the Roughnecks 1st pick (2nd overall) in the 2003 NLL entry draft, he said he was looking for someone to anchor the defence in the not-too-distant future.

Wray's performances so far suggests Banister's hopes will be fulfilled.

Banister had hoped to also scoop Taylor's older brother, Devan, in that same draft. But by the time it got around to his second selection, Devan (#4) had been taken by the Ravens.

One month later, Banister persuaded Vancouver to give him Devan in exchange for a first round pick in the 2005 entry draft.

Finally, veteran defender Grant Hamilton (#29) was obtained from Anaheim in lieu of a 3rd round draft pick, again in the 2005 NLL entry draft.

The 'Necks made three other significant signings, Kevin Howard, Kevin Dostie and Craig Gelsvik. Though Howard and Dostie - both of whom were with the Ottawa Rebel last yearare on the roster, neither has yet dressed for a game. Work commitments mean Gelsvik is unavailable until the end of January.
