Toronto Rock News Release
With goal number one being scored by fan favourite, Jim Veltman at the four second mark of the first quarter, it quickly became evident that this would be an interesting evening at the Air Canada Centre. The first quarter began as a spirited, high scoring affair with a total of 10 goals scored. Capping off the Toronto's first quarter goals were Manning, Painter, and Doyle. Vancouver ended the quarter with a 2 goal lead, having a score of 6-4. Ravens goals by Gill, Sedgwick, Dwane, Conn, Stroup and Olsen.
The second quarter began with the Ravens unleashing a relentless scoring tirade. Nearly doubling their first quarter tally, the Ravens finished the first half with an 11-7 lead. Three quick Rock goals at the end of the quarter slightly helped to overcome adversity, however, it was obvious by the tally on the scoreboard that the Rock's play would need to be picked up in order to gain another notch in the win column.
And the fire had been lit.
Four unanswered goals by the Rock at the beginning of the third quarter enabled the Rock to tie the game at 11. Not until the dying moments of the quarter did the Ravens once again pull ahead with a goal by Conn. The quarter ended with a one goal lead for the visitors at 12-11.
The first marker of the fourth quarter came as Steve Toll displayed how speedy he really is to tie the game at 12. An insurgence of offence lead to a 10-1 second half scoring dominance for the Rock capped by a 6 goals in the fourth. Rock goals scored by Manning(2), Doyle, Wilson and Gibson with an empty netter. Tonight's final from Toronto saw the home town Rock winning by a score of 17-12.
Please join tonight's player of the game, Aaron Wilson, and the rest of the Toronto Rock as the take on the Philadelphia Wings, Friday, February 7th, 2004 at the Air Canada Centre.
