Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks took down the Thunderbirds in overtime Saturday night in Halifax, winning the east coast contest 12-11.

Calgary's special teams shone in the first quarter with a power play goal from Tanner Cook, two shorthanded goals from Zach Currier and Haiden Dickson, plus a full-strength goal from Ethan Ticehurst matching Halifax's four goals to tie things up 4-4 to start the game. The Thunderbirds pulled ahead in the second quarter, netting four whilst keeping the Roughnecks to one goal from Josh Currier.

The Roughnecks battled back in the final half and kept the home side scoreless from halfway through the third quarter. Thanks to a string of goals from Zach Currier, Jeff Cornwall, Cook and Dan Taylor, Calgary came within one mid-way through the final frame before Taylor found the back of the net in the final seconds to take the Roughnecks to their second overtime in as many weeks.

Zach Currier won the first draw of overtime and fed to Jeff Cornwall who scored on the breakaway just nine seconds in to see the Roughnecks come away with the win.

Captain Jesse King led the team in points tonight with four from four assists, Zach Currier came away with three goals whilst Jeff Cornwall, Haiden Dickson and Tanner Cook each netted two. Eli Salama was strong on defence with 12 loose balls.

The Calgary Roughnecks are now 4-3 on the season with 11 games remaining.
