Roughnecks-Knighthawks first meeting at 'Dome
April 3, 2009 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Calgary Roughnecks News Release
CALGARY, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks are the first team in the National Lacrosse League to have clinched the playoffs for 2009. This weekend, the Roughnecks have the opportunity to clinch home advantage and the Western Division title with a win AND two Portland losses.
The Roughnecks are playing the Rochester Knighthawks this Saturday, April 4th. Ball drop is 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on The FAN 960 radio and nll.com.
The Rochester Knighthawks will be making their first appearance to the Pengrowth Saddledome since their inauguration in 2005. The former 1997 and 2007 Champions have dealt the Riggers losses in the previous two times the teams have met, on Rochester's home turf.
The Roughnecks played a double header last weekend, from which they prevailed with one win and one loss. The Riggers suffered a disappointing 12-10 loss to the Toronto Rock on March 27th, but revived themselves to defeat the Minnesota Swarm 13-10, clinching a playoff berth at Xcel Energy Center.
Twin brothers, Paul and Gary Gait are both members of the Rochester squad and are well known around the league. Paul is the head coach of the Knighthawks, while Gary came out of retirement earlier this year to play for Rochester.
Gary will not be in playing for the Knighthawks this weekend due to prior coaching commitments.
Saturday's game is sponsored by the Calgary SUN.
