FC Tulsa News Release
The Tulsa Roughnecks FC closed out a five-game road swing Sunday afternoon in Portland with a 4-0 loss to Timbers 2 at Providence Park. Portland controlled the game throughout most of the match as Tulsa created few dangerous scoring chances despite 11 total shots.
The Timbers 2 struck first in the 12th minute. Bill Poni Tuiloma was in the center of the box and headed a corner kick cross from Marvin Loria past TRFC keeper Chase Gentry for the match's first goal.
Just a short time later, Portland doubled its lead. From the left side of the goal, Marco Farfan delivered a perfect pass to Loria who was standing in the center of the box. Loria took an uncontested shot and put it in the back of the net, giving the Timbers a 2-0 lead.
The Roughnecks got a good chance for a goal towards the end of the first half. Ivan Mirkovic had a ball bounce to him at the edge of the box. He took the shot, but it was blocked. On the rebound, Nemanja Vukovic sent his effort high and over the crossbar.
T2 added a third goal in first-half stoppage time. From midfield, Nathan Smith sent in a very nice ball to Jack Barmby who shot it right under the legs of Gentry to put Portland on top 3-0 headed into halftime.
The Roughnecks got a corner kick opportunity minutes after returning from the break. Jesus Ferreira took the corner, and the ball was deflected off a Timbers defender right to Michael Gamble who was just outside the box. Gamble took an open shot, but it was wide to the right.
Tulsa had another good chance off a corner in the 69th minute. Vukovic sent in the corner to Adrian Jusino who was standing near the far post. He attempted to head the ball for the Roughnecks first goal, but the ball sailed just high of the crossbar.
Later in the half, Gentry came up with a nice save off a T2 penalty kick. Eti Tavares was called for a foul inside the box which allowed Foster Langsdorf to take PK. Langsdorf's shot was low and to the right, and Gentry made a nice slide to smother the ball.
But just a few minutes later, T2 found the back of the net for the fourth time. From midfield, Darion Asprilla made a nice pass to Victor Arboleda just inside the box. Arboleda took a few steps with the ball, and made a quick stop to get the Roughnecks defenders out of position. His shot took a deflection past Gentry and into the back of the net to give Portland a 4-0 lead.
The Roughnecks were held without a good scoring opportunity for the remainder of the match, giving the Timbers 2 a 4-0 win.
The Roughnecks finally return home this Saturday, September 15 to face San Antonio FC. It will be Hispanic Heritage Night, and there will be a huge post-match fireworks show presented by Tulsa's Channel 8.
