Calgary Roughnecks News Release

EDMONTON, AB- The Edmonton Rush (3-1) extended their winning streak to three by defeating the Calgary Roughnecks (1-3) 14-11 at Rexall Place in front of 7,815 fans on Saturday night.

The game was back-and-forth until the fourth quarter when the Rush extended their lead to three goals.

Veteran forward Kaleb Toth (2g, 2a) played his first game of the season and his presence was felt early. Toth, whose heavy shot must be accounted for on the powerplay, opened up a shooting lane with his presence alone on a Josh Sanderson powerplay goal early in the first to open the scoring for the Roughnecks.

Toth's first goal of the season came on a rocket from the point that blew by Rush goaltender Matt Disher. During Toth's celebration, the two teams started pushing and shoving with a short fight ensuing between Ian Crashley and Toth. The goal gave the ‘Necks their first lead of the night at 1:15 of the second quarter.

Toth's presence was no more evident than when he was sitting in the penalty box after the fight. The ‘Necks were not only unable to score on a five-minute major, assessed to Crashley at the same time of his fighting major in addition to a game misconduct, but they gave up two shorthanded goals. With Toth on the floor for their first two powerplays, the Riggers took less than 15 seconds to capitalize on each.

Josh Sanderson (2g, 5a), Dane Dobbie (2g, 3a) and Tracey Kelusky (2g, 3a) led the way for the Roughnecks. The Rush were led by Dean Hill (3g, 1a), Andy Secore (2g, 2a) and Ryan Ward (1g, 5a).

The two teams face-off again on Friday, Feb. 5th at the Pengrowth Saddledome (7:30 p.m. MST start time). For tickets, visit Ticketmaster.ca or call 403-294-9244.
