(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks secured their third win of the season with a dominate 16-8 victory over their East Division rivals the Toronto Rock tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, the Knighthawks improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Rock are handed their first loss and fall to 3-1.

The Knighthawks were led by John Grant who had eight points, scoring three goals and five assists. Player of the game, Shawn Evans (2+3) and Craig Point (2+3) had five points each, while Gary Gait (2+2) and Shawn Williams (1+3) both added four. Goalie Aaron Bold got the win with 37 saves.

Blaine Manning (2+2) and Stefan Leblanc (1+3) each contributed four points for the Rock in the losing effort. Toronto's goaltending tandem of veteran netminder Bob Watson (10) and former Knighthawk goalie Steve Dietrich (30) combined for 40 saves.

Rochester opened up the game scoring three goals by Scott Evans, Williams and Gait to take a 3-0 lead. The Rock answered back a little over five minutes later when Manning cut the Knighthawks lead to 3-1. Rochester again answered back with three goals, two by Point and one by Gait. Kasey Beirnes of the Rock ended scoring in the first with a goal making the score 6-2.

The Rock started to creep back in the second when Garrett Billings and Leblanc both scored power-play goals, cutting Rochester's lead 6-4. Rochester then took control of the ball and scored three power-play goals from Scott Evans, Grant and Shawn Evans. Kevin Fines finished out the half with an unassisted goal, putting the Knighthawks up 10-4.

Toronto came out firing at the beginning of the second half scoring four goals giving the Rock the lead 10-8. Manning led the Rock with one goal and one assist, followed by John Wasson with two assists.

The Knighthawks took control back in the fourth quarter scoring six goals to blast the Rock 16-8. Joe Walters started the offense early, scoring his first goal of the season eleven seconds into the quarter with an assist from Point. Five more goals were scored throughout the period by Shawn Evans, Grant, Joel McCready and Peter Jacobs.

Toronto had a chance to answer back at 5:47 of the fourth with a penalty shot, but Pat O'Toole came up with a huge save, leaving them scoreless in the quarter.

Rochester hits the road next to face the Boston Blazers Saturday, February 6th at 7:35 p.m. before they return home on the 13th to battle the Blazers again at 2:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and thezone941.com.
