Roughnecks Face Tough Road Test Tonight in Colorado Springs
August 5, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
Tulsa Roughnecks FC are back on the road for a two-game swing in Rocky Mountains. The trip starts Wednesday night with a meeting in Colorado Springs against the Switchbacks. They will travel to Salt Lake City for a Saturday matchup with the Real Monarchs.
Tonight's match against the Switchbacks presents a tough task for the Roughnecks. Colorado Springs currently sits in third position in the USL's Western Conference table, but it leads all teams in points per match. The Switchbacks have 35 points in 19 matches (11-6-2), only two points behind co-leaders Sacramento and Seattle Sounders 2 but with two games in hand.
The Switchbacks have been nearly unbeatable at home this year. They are 8-1-1 in ten home matches with the lone defeat coming in their first home game of the season in a 2-0 loss to Oklahoma City.
Roughnecks FC enter the match with only one loss in its last six outings. One of those six games was a 3-1 win over the Switchbacks at Tulsa's ONOEK Field on July 11. The Roughnecks are currently in seventh position in the West with 28 points in 21 matches (8-9-4), but a victory tonight would move them into the sixth spot. The top six teams in each conference qualify for the USL playoffs.
The game will be broadcast live on Tulsa's Sports Radio AM 1300 with Jeremie Poplin calling the action. The broadcast can be heard online at 1300TheBuzz.com. It will also be shown live on the SwitchbacksFC YouTube channel.
The official Watch Party, in conjunction with the Roustabouts, will be held at Empire Bar, located at 1516 S. Peoria.
RECENT FORM
Both teams posted wins in their last outings. On Sunday, Tulsa defeated Arizona United by scoring a franchise record six goals in a 6-3 victory at ONEOK Field.
The Switchbacks posted a 2-0 victory over Los Angeles Galaxy II last Friday night at Sand Creek Stadium.

CHECKING THE STATS
The Roughnecks now lead all USL teams with an average of 13.9 shots per match. They are now tied for fourth with Seattle Sounders 2 with 37 total goals this season. Pittsburgh leads USL with 42 goals, while Colorado Springs is second with 39.
In contrast, Tulsa goalkeepers have been busy, averaging a league most 5.14 saves per match. The Roughnecks have surrendered an average of 1.71 goals game, fifth worst in the league.
Individually, Sammy Ochoa and Brady Ballew now lead the Roughnecks with five goals apiece. Ballew has added four assists and leads the squad with 14 total points.
Steven Miller is the only Roughneck to play in all 21 of the team's matches this season.
Tulsa goalkeeper Jake Feener and his defense will need to be concerned with midfielder Luke Vercollone and forward Miguel Gonzalez. Vercollone leads the Switchbacks with 10 goals and 27 points this season, but 6 of the goals have come from the penalty spot. Vercollone is a perfect 6-6 on PKs this season, including one in Tulsa's 3-1 victory over the Switchbacks earlier this season.
Gonzalez has tallied eight goals.
