Roughnecks Advance To West Division Final

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks pulled away from a halftime 7-7 tie, starting the third quarter scoring two shorthanded goals en route to a 15-10 triumph over the Colorado Mammoth. The win eliminates Colorado from the 2013 NLL Playoffs and sets the stage for the West Division Final next Saturday when the Roughnecks host the Washington Stealth.
Jeff Shattler paced the Roughnecks with three goals and four assists, while Daryl Veltman added one goal and set up five others. Shawn Evans, who won the league's scoring title with 112 points, had a five-point performance (3g, 2a) followed by Scott Ranger (3g, 1a) and Dane Dobbie (4a) with four points each. Rookie forward Joe Resetarits (1g, 1a), Curtis Dickson (1g, 1a), Travis Cornwall (1g, 1a), Peter McFetridge (1g, 1a) and Nolan Heavenor (1g) also scored for the home side, while captain Andrew McBride chipped in a pair of helpers. McBride has now dressed for 17 playoff games for Calgary, setting a franchise record for most post-season games played.
Casey Powell led the visitors with three goals and three assists, while Adam Jones (4g, 1a), John Grant Jr. (2g, 3a) and Jordan McBride (5a) recorded five points each in the loss. Mat MacLeod (1g, 1a) rounded out the scoring for Colorado.
Calgary goaltender Mike Poulin recorded 32 saves on 40 shots, with a standout performance in the second half conceding just one goal, to record the win. Making an appearance in the late stages of the final quarter, Frankie Scigliano made two saves for Calgary.
The Roughnecks will now host the Washington Stealth on Saturday, May 4 in the 2013 NLL West Division Final. Face-off is 4:30 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome as the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
