DENVER - In three of the past five seasons, the Calgary Roughnecks had been the Colorado Mammoth's playoff kryptonite. The trend continued on Saturday, as the Roughnecks defeated the Mammoth, 15-10, in the West Division Semifinal to eliminate Colorado from the postseason.

Tied 7-7 early in the third quarter, the Mammoth appeared poised to make a run when Curtis Dickson was called for a five-minute high-sticking major penalty. But Calgary dominated while playing a man down, scoring two short-handed goals while holding Colorado scoreless.

"It ended up being the point in the game that turned it around for them," said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley.

The Roughnecks added two more in the period and kept the Mammoth off the score-sheet.

"You can't go the [entire] third quarter without scoring goals ... at least one," said Hamley.

Casey Powell finally ended the Mammoth's second-half scoring drought 2:53 into the fourth, but by that point, the game was all but out of reach. The mid-season acquisition led the team with six points (3g, 3a). Adam Jones had four goals and one assist, and John Grant Jr. added two goals and three assists. Mat MacLeod was the only other Mammoth player to score.

Calgary's Shawn Evans, Scott Ranger and Jeff Shattler each had hat tricks, and goalie Mike Poulin allowed eight goals on 40 shots on goals in 57-plus minutes.

Colorado clinched a playoff berth in the final game of the regular season one week ago. Calgary, the West Division's number-one seed, will host the Washington Stealth in the divisional final next Saturday.
