Roughnecks Add English Striker Taylor Morgan
February 23, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
Tulsa Roughnecks FC added another piece to its attack Tuesday afternoon with the announcement that English forward Taylor Morgan has signed a two-year deal with club. The speedy striker is expected to arrive in Tulsa today.
Taylor Morgan in action for Falkirk in the 2015 Scottish FA Cup Semifinal against Hibernian.
"Taylor is going to be another quality forward who will offer us something different," said Tulsa assistant Tom Taylor.
"He has great size and excellent pace. I've known about Taylor since he was at George Mason University and at Toronto FC, and he has all the tools to make it at the next level. He has been overseas playing at a high level in Sweden and Scotland the last few years, gaining some great experience. When I heard about his availability, I thought that he would be another strong addition to our forward line and would create some good competition in that department with Sammy, Cristian and Kaleem."
The 25-year-old Morgan spent most of his youth career in England with the Southampton and Queens Park Rangers academy systems. He later joined the England U-18 program for three years before coming to the United States to play collegiate soccer. In his final three collegiate seasons, Morgan scored a total of 23 goals while starring for George Mason.
He was drafted by Toronto in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. Morgan made his professional debut with Toronto on opening day of the 2013 season, appearing as a substitute. It would be his only appearance in MLS before returning to Europe later that year.
Morgan joined Swedish side Ostersunds FK in August of 2013 and scored three regular season goals for the side while adding two more goals in cup competition.
Following an injury, he was loaned to Falkirk in the Scottish Championship and made ten appearances. Late last summer, he moved to Scottish One side Airdrieonians and scored 2 goals in 18 matches.
Taylor will accompany the Roughnecks on their preseason trip to Florida. The club will depart on Friday.
Tulsa is scheduled to begin USL regular season play on Saturday, March 26 by hosting Rio Grande Valley at ONEOK Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00PM with tickets available.
