Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of defender Bruno Perone to the 2016 USL regular season roster, pending FIFA ITC approval.
The Hammerheads recruiting efforts abroad have proved successful with the major signing of Perone. His exceptional defensive abilities have led to an outstanding career playing for multiple professional clubs, largely within his home country of Brazil.
Perone began his career playing for Brazilian clubs Noroeste, followed by the well-known Figueirense FC and Corinthians Paranaense. In 2011, Perone made the impressive transition into the English Premier League with the Queens Park Rangers. Eventually, the 6'4" center back returned to Brazil for three years before joining his most recent team, the Kerala Blasters FC, as a part of the Indian Super League. The Hammerheads will be Perone's first time playing professionally in the U.S., and the 28 year-old brings the vast experience of a veteran player to Wilmington's roster.
"I'm very happy to play in the U.S. and eager to become a part of the Hammerheads," said Perone.
Perone expressed that he expects to have a great season with his teammates and plans to help his team win a USL title. He is excited to join the beautiful Wilmington community and meet the Hammerheads' strong fan base.
"I am thrilled to have a player of Bruno's pedigree to sign in Wilmington," said Head Coach Mark Briggs. "He has played at the highest level in England and Brazil, and he will bring leadership and experience that is needed in any team. He is a player that our supporters will want to come and see."
