Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(23-33) allowed eight batters to the plate in the third inning as the Gateway Grizzlies(29-29) scored four times and held on for a 4-1 decision.
With runners at second and third, in the third, Logan Davis hit an RBI infield single to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Zach Lavy knocked in two with a double to the centerfield wall. Lavy would later score on an RBI double by Brandon Thomas. If not for three strikeouts by pitcher Kramer Champlin, the inning might have gone on much longer.
The Bums' lone run came in the sixth. Jose Vargas led off with a single to center. Will Kengor followed by inducing a walk, moving Vargas to second. Elijah Trail then drove in Vargas with an RBI single to center, as Vargas beat the throw to the plate.
The win goes to Jon Jones, as he improves to 2-1. He went five innings, allowing three hits and two walks, striking out four. After the tough third inning, Kramer Champlin settled things down, finishing six innings, allowing just two more hits, and striking out a total of nine. With the loss, he falls to 3-5. Will LaMarche allowed the Beach Bums to get the tying run to the plate on a couple of walks, but closed the door for his second save of the season.
