
Washington Splits Double Header

WASHINGTON, PA- The Washington Wild Things (28-26) took on the River City Rascals (26-28) in a double headerWednesday at CONSOL Energy Park. Washington split the double header, winning game one by a final score of 2-0 and falling in game two by a final score of 6-0.

In game one Matt Fraudin (4-4) secured the win on the mound for Washington. Fraudin surrendered just three hits and struck out seven in all seven innings pitched. Jake Negrete (0-2) is charged with the loss, surrendering two earned runs and striking out five in six innings pitched.

Washington took the early lead courtesy of Grant Fink, launching his 5th home run of the year to left field, giving the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. A single from Kyle Pollock set up the next run for Washington as Austin Wobrock delivered an RBI double, extending the lead to 2-0. Wild Things center fielder Chris Grayson led team with stolen bases, stealing base in the 1st and 6th innings.

Joe Pavlovich (1-1) picked up the win in game two for the Rascals. Pavlovich finished the day with two strikeouts and surrendered one hit in six innings. Luke Wilkins (2-3) is charged with the loss, striking out four in four innings pitched.
The Rascals took an early lead in game two. A walk to Willi Martin in the top of the second set up an RBI triple from Jason Merjano, giving the Rascals a 1-0 lead. River City extended their lead in the 3rd with a walk to Alexi Colon that set up a hit from Josh Silver that was mishandled by the shortstop, resulting in a charged error and run for the Rascals.

Singles from Clint Freeman and Braxton Martinez in the top of the 4th were followed up by two straight strikeouts from Washington pitcher Luke Wilkins. Solid pitching would not be enough as an RBI triple from Alexi Colon extended the lead for the Rascals to 4-0. Josh Ludy tacked on some insurance with an RBI single again extending the lead to 5-0. Â The Wild Things found themselves in scoring position in the bottom of the 6th with back-to-back walks to Jamodrick McGruder and Ricky Rodriguez, but solid defense prevented them from scoring. The Rascals added another run in the top of the 7th with a sac fly from Clint Freeman securing a 6-0 final score.
