
Rough Going For The Storm

Tri-City Storm News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Tri-City Storm (0-4-1 in preseason) could not find a break in the first period against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, as the Storm loss to the RoughRiders 7-2 on the second day of the Fall Classic in Sioux City, Iowa. Tri-City outshot Cedar Rapids 12-3 in the first period, however trailed 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
The RoughRiders opened the scoring 19:39 into the first period as Andy Simpson scored in the final minute of the first period. Assisting on the goal was Jeff Costello, who returned to the ice from the penalty box to lead the up-ice rush that gave Cedar Rapids the lead.
After trailing 2-0 in the second period, Radoslav Illo got the Storm on the board at the 5:53 mark. Jaden Schwartz and Maxwell Tardy received the assists on the goal.
However, the RoughtRiders scored three unanswered goals to finish the second period ahead of the Storm 5-1.
Tri-City started the scoring 7:00 into the third period with Brett Mohler scoring his first goal of the preseason. The Storm trialed 5-2 after Mohler's unassisted tally, nonetheless the RoughRiders pulled away with two goals late in the game to prevail to victory.
Overall, the Storm outshot the RoughRiders 25-20. The Storm power play was 0-3, while Cedar Rapids was 2-3 with the man-advantage.
The Storm will play one more game at the Fall Classic in Sioux City, Iowa with the Storm playing the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday (10am) in the Tyson Events Center. The Storm will try to pick up a victory on the final preseason game of 2009 exhibition schedule.
