SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev.) notched a goal in the third period and Andy Iles (Ithaca, N.Y.) made 17 saves as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Sioux City Musketeers, 2-1, in a shootout here tonight at the 2009 United States Hockey League Fall Classic at the Tyson Events Center.
After a scoreless first period, Stephan Vigier gave the Musketeers a 1-0 lead with just 2:49 remaining in the middle stanza after he converted on a Tommy Olczyk rebound from the left side of the goal crease. Just 1:20 later, Iles kept Team USA within a goal after making an acrobatic glove save, sliding from post to post to make the snag.
With 6:34 remaining in regulation, Zucker tied the score after he got the puck from Brandon Saad (Gibsonia, Pa.) behind the net, wrapped around to the right side and slid it between the legs of netminder Matt Skoff. Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal at the end of the third frame, sending the game to a five-round shootout.
In the shootout, Vigier was the only player able to find the back of the net giving Sioux City the 2-1 victory.
