Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Greg Ross gave up just two hits in seven innings as the Mississippi Braves plated two runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Mobile BayBears Friday night at Trustmark Park. The series continues Saturday at 6:00 PM.
With the win Mississippi (14-8, 53-38) takes a one game lead over Mobile (13-9, 55-36) in the Southern League South Division Standings. In four starts for the M-Braves, Ross (3-1) has turned in a quality start in three outings. Friday he held the BayBears to just two hits and four walks in seven innings while fanning five.
The M-Braves score both runs in the first. Jose Peraza singled to start the frame. Kyle Wren and Kyle Kubitza both walked to load the bases with no outs. Cedric Hunter then grounded into a force out, driving home Peraza, and Barrett Kleinknecht delivered a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Wren.
The BayBears did not get a runner beyond first base until the eighth inning when Evan Marzilli walked and stole second. A strikeout and ground out ended the threat.
Chasen Shreve (S, 7) recorded the final four outs to notch the save. He struck out two and gave up one hit. Cody Fassold worked 2/3 of an inning to pick up his first hold.
Bradin Hagens (7-4) gave up two earned runs on three hits and three walks. He struck out two in six innings pitched and took the loss.
The M-Braves send right-hander Williams Perez (3-4, 2.59) to the hill in game three of this five-game series. He'll counter BayBears righty Archie Bradley (0-0, 1.42). First pitch is slated for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 4:30 PM.
