Danville Otterbots News Release

Danville, VA - Going into Saturday night's game the Danville Braves had yet to shutout an opponent all season long. Now they have done it twice. The D-Braves held the Bristol White Sox scoreless on Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 5-0. Greg Ross tossed six innings and earned his fifth win of the year.

D-Braves starter, Greg Ross, started off a little rocky but gained his composure and pitched a solid game. The right hander allowed a single and walk to open up the game but was able to escape the jam unscathed after striking out one and inducing two fly outs.

Danville was able to put themselves on the board in the third inning. Fernando De Los Santos started the inning off with a single. Kenny Fleming singled two hitters later which pushed De Los Santos to third. Nick Ahmed grounded out to short next which allowed De Los Santos to score. The D-Braves held a 1-0 lead after three innings of play.

The Braves tagged Bristol's starter, Ethan Icard, for three more runs in the home half of the fourth. Brandon Drury led off the inning with a single and then was able to advance to second on a wild pitch. Chase Larsson drew a walk from Icard before he threw another wild pitch letting both runners move up. Nick De Santiago hit a sacrifice fly to left which scored Drury and the first run of the inning. Another walk later, Kurt Fleming tripled to deep right center field. Two more runs scored and the D-Braves had a 4-0 cushion.

The Braves added one more run in the fifth before Greg Ross pitched through the sixth inning. He allowed just four hits and struck out three. He walked three batters in the game. It was Ross's fifth win of the year, improving his record to 5-2. He lowered his ERA from 3.06 to 2.61.

John Cornely pitched two relief innings. He walked and struck out two. Joe Lucas finished off the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed a walk and then a double with just one out. He was able to preserve the shutout though when he got Daurys Mercedes to strike out and Jerry Puentes to fly out to end the game.

The D-Braves record now stands at 26-20. It was their second straight shutout over Bristol. The Braves pitching staff has now held their opponents scoreless over the last 20 innings. That dates back to the seventh inning of the August 4 game against the Princeton Rays. The Braves extended their winning streak to four games this afternoon.

Danville will go for the sweep tomorrow night at 7:00 pm when David Filak searches for his first win against Jean Duque.
