Errors Pave the Way for Twins Win
Pulaski VA (August 7, 2011) - Sunday brought another long night at Calfee Park for the Mariners. Six errors from Pulaski gave the Twins the early lead and they never looked back, beating the Mariners for the second consecutive night, 11-3.
The Twins took a huge lead early in the game scoring six runs in the first two innings, mostly due to errors. The Mariners answered back with one run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Bryan Brito that scored Jean Acevedo to make the score 6-1. The Mariners pushed across another run in the fourth to draw the lead to 6-2.
That would be the closest the Mariners would get to the Twins. Elizabethton added another run to their lead in the fifth inning on a solo homerun from Miguel Sano (10) do extend the Twins' lead to 7-2.
The final nail in the coffin for the Mariners Sunday night came in the top of the seventh inning. The Twins started a two out rally beginning with a Kennys Vargas single. That was followed by a walk to Miguel Sano and a three run dinger (5) by Tyler Koelling to push the lead to 10-2.
The Mariners did score one in the bottom of the seventh, only to have the Twins answer with a run of their own in the eighth to extend the lead to what would be the final score 11-3.
Todd Van Steensel (4-2) got the win for the Twins throwing five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, and striking out eight. Mayckol Guaipe (3-5) was tagged with the loss going three innings, allowing six runs (three earned) and striking out three.
The final game of the three game series between the Elizabethton Twins and the Pulaski Mariners will be Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Calfee Park.
