Rose Released at Deadline

North Bay Battalion News Release
NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion released defenceman Simon Rose to get to the roster maximum of three overagers by noon Friday, the Ontario Hockey League club announced.
The acquisition of rearguard Grayson Ladd in a Wednesday trade gave the Battalion four overagers, including right wingers Brandon Coe and Mitchell Russell.
"Simon has been a very special person to this team over the past five seasons," said general manager Adam Dennis.
"He has made an impact on the ice and in the community and is someone that we are all very grateful for. He will be missed, but we know he has a bright future and we look forward to following his career."
Rose, a North Bay native who turned 20 last March 23, shone in his final Battalion game Thursday night, assisting on one of Russell's three goals before netting the decisive tally in a four-round shootout to give the Troops a 4-3 victory over the visiting Mississauga Steelheads, ending a six-game losing skid.
A second-round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Pembroke Lumber Kings minor midgets, Rose scored nine goals and earned 43 assists for 52 points with 117 penalty minutes in 179 games over three-plus seasons. The resident of Renfrew, Ont., had two goals and eight assists for 10 points with 35 penalty minutes in 32 games this season.
With the overager trade deadline having passed, the deadline for all other transactions falls at noon Monday.
"We feel that we have a special group in this dressing room and, when we're clicking, we can compete with anyone in our conference," said Dennis.
"We'll approach the next three days with an intent on improving the club in any way that we can without mortgaging our future. We look forward to what should be a fun second half."
The roster now stands at 22, numbering 13 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders.
The Battalion had several regulars sidelined against Mississauga but, Dennis said, Coe and defencemen Avery Winslow and Ty Nelson are expected back for a visit at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to the Barrie Colts. The game, which has been restored to the schedule after having been postponed because of the covid pandemic, can be seen live in North Bay on YourTV Channels 12 and 700.
The Battalion has a won-lost-extended record of 17-11-4 for 38 points, second in the Central Division. Barrie is 14-7-2 for 30 points, third in the division.
North Bay debuted three Wednesday trade acquisitions in the Mississauga game. Wingers Kyle McDonald and Nikita Tarasevich joined Ladd in wearing Battalion green for the first time. McDonald was acquired from the Windsor Spitfires with Ladd, while Tarasevich formerly was with the Sarnia Sting.
