Montreal Alouettes News Release
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, May 26, 2005 - It's off! Alouette rookies hit the field in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu this morning for the first rookie camp practice.
Rookie camp objective
According to Head Coach Don Matthews, the objective of rookie camp is for the players to better understand the schemes, allowing the coaching staff to coach at a veteran level.
Robert Edwards
The NFL New England Patriots' first-round draft pick in 1998, Robert Edwards, performed quite well. He will miss the next few days of practice, however, and will return at the beginning of next week.
Matthieu Proulx
In just his first practice, Université Laval rookie Matthieu Proulx stood out with his first interception. Don Matthews had good comments about the Alouettes' first-round draft pick: ''We anticipate him to get a spot as a special teams player and grow from there.'' Matthews added it is very difficult for a rookie to earn a starting position in his first season.
Indoors
This morning's practice was held at the Stade du Haut-Richelieu because of rain.
Vercheval
Alouette-turned-RDS commentator Pierre Vercheval attended the first rookie camp practice this morning. He seemed to be in good enough shape to make a comeback...
Tomorrow
As today, tomorrow's practice will be held at 9:30 a.m. with location to be determined in the morning.
