Rogues Take out Corvallis

MEDFORD, OR - Snapping a five game losing streak, the Medford Rogues scored five runs in the second inning to defeat the Corvallis Knights 7-1 in the first of a three game series at Harry and David Field.

Rogues catcher Niko Pacheco drove in the first run for Medford off a double bringing in outfielder Quentin Urban. A two-run single by infielder Ray McIntire gave the Rogues a 3-1 lead with two outs in the second.

Left fielder Matt Taylor drove in two more runs after hitting a home run over the right field fence giving the Rouges a 5-1 lead after two innings of play. This was the second night in a row that a Rogues batter hit a home run, following two on Monday night.

Rogues starter RHP Mac Acker pitched an impressive 7 2/3-innings allowing only three hits while striking out four batters. Acker improves to 1-1 overall on the season bringing his ERA to 3.18.

Medford would go on to score two more runs in the sixth inning off of a wild pitch and an error by the Knights.

First baseman Matt Page batted 2-for-4 with two runs in the game while second baseman A.J. Balta added two hits of his own.

Making his Rogues debut, RHP Mason Stidham came in to relief in the ninth inning to end the game. Rogues improve to 5-8 on the season while Corvallis drops in 6-7 in the West Coast League.

Both teams return tomorrow night for game two of the series at Harry and David Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The West Coast League is an 11-team collegiate wood-bat baseball league composed of the best college players, coaches, facilities and operators in the industry. Ranging from Medford, Oregon north to Kelowna, B.C., the league has operated as the WCL since 2005. In 2012, a league record 57 WCL players were selected in the Major League draft.
