Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - For the second consecutive game, strong starting pitching led the Medford Rogues to a victory with starter Mac Acker throwing eight consecutive scoreless innings in a 3-1 win over the Victoria HarbourCats to complete the series sweep.
The Rogues scored their first run in the second inning off an RBI-double by shortstop Joe Chavez who drove in first baseman Niko Pacheco to take the early 1-0 lead.
Medford would add two more runs in the fourth inning with outfielder Spencer Smith hit a two-RBI single giving the Rogues a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish.
Acker (4-2) earned his fourth win of the season, pitching 8 1/3-innings allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts. Victoria broke their 23 consecutive scoreless inning streak against the Rogues with a home run in the top of the ninth by HarbourCats' third baseman Dylan Lavelle.
Smith led the Rogues at the plate finishing the night going 2-for-4 with two RBIs while infielder Parker Miles hit 2-for-4 for a run scored.
Reliever Hector Lujan came in the bottom of the ninth to earn his second save of the year, pitching 2/3-inning with a strikeout.
The Rogues have now won their third game in a row and are sitting only four games out of first place in the WCL South Division with a 17-19 record. In addition, the Rogues have now won the season series from Victoria four games to two. The Rogues are within two of tying the WCL record for most wins by an expansion team.
Medford prepares to host WCL South Rival Klamath Falls Gems in a three game series starting on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
