Rogues Move Closer to Playoff Spot
August 11, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - After a rainout on Friday the Medford Rogues split a twin bill with the Central Oregon Bucks on Saturday night in front of 1,343 fans who braved threatening skies throughout the evening.
With rosters jumbled for non-league action, Oregon State OF Max Gordon started both games for the Rogues, and coaches Josh Hogan, Dylan Jones, Jeff Lyle and Aaron Nielsen all saw action. Game one went to Central Oregon 2-0 while the Rogues held on in game two for a 7-6 win to end the regular season with 14 home wins in 15 games and a 38-25 overall record for the summer.
The more important game was played in Bend as the Elks fell to the Walla Walla Sweets 5-3 to fall to within a half game of the Rogues for the final WCL playoff spot. Bend has now lost five in a row and with a Sunday loss will fall to 30-24 and a tie with the Rogues for second place in the WCL South. With a 4-2 season series win Medford would advance to the playoffs on the tiebreaker.
If Bend loses on Sunday the Rogues will advance to the postseason and face the Corvallis Knights in game one of the WCL South playoffs on Tuesday night at Harry & David Field. Game time at Vince Genna Stadium is 5:05 p.m.
