Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues tonight became the first expansion team in West Coast League history to reach the playoffs in their inaugural year as the team sweated out a Bend loss to clinch the second WCL South playoff spot.

Bend and Medford finished the regular season tied at 30-24 with the Rogues holding the first tiebreaker with a 4-2 season series record over the Elks. The playoff spot was in doubt to the very last pitch in Bend tonight as the Elks dropped a 14-12 heartbreaker to the Walla Walla Sweets, the WCL North Champion. Bend fought back from a 10-1 deficit but couldn't finish off the Sweets in the end. Medford finished their WCL season on Thursday night and had to watch as Bend dropped all three games of their season-ending series to Walla Walla.

The WCL South Divisional playoffs start at Harry & David Field on Tuesday as the Rogues host the WCL South Champion Corvallis Knights in game one of a best-of-three Divisional playoff series. The Knights finished the regular season with a league-best 37-17 record.

"This is an amazing cap to an amazing season," Rogues General Manager Chuck Heeman said. "Coach Hogan, the staff and players have earned this and we're going to enjoy it tonight but tomorrow it's back to work. Corvallis has been rolling and they are hot coming into this series. We have our work cut out for us but to even have a shot at them in the post-season speaks to the job our guys have done. It's an exciting time to be in Medford."

Tuesday's game one starts at 6:35 p.m. at Harry & David Field. Games two and (if needed) three will be at Goss Stadium in Corvallis on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6:40 p.m.
