Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - Despite a record breaking crowd of 2,832, the Rogues were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to the Walla Walla Sweets 6-4 to go behind by one game in the series in their return to Harry and David Field.
Medford starter Jake Lessel struggled from the start, giving up four runs in two-plus innings of work. RHP Dillon Keene relieved Lessel in the third but it was too late to stop the bleeding.
Medford scored their first run in the bottom of the third after a base hit by third baseman Caleb Palensky drove in Matt Taylor making the score 1-5 heading into the fourth.
Walla Walla RHP Sean Silva earned the win allowing six hits through six innings and no earned runs.
With the loss, Rogues fall to 4-6 overall in the West Coast League while the Sweets improve to 3-4 on the season.
The Rogues found success hitting late in the eighth inning score three runs to bring the score 6-4 but it would not be enough as the Sweets take the first game of a three game series. Newly-arrived Rogues C Niko Pacheco (Cal State Fullerton) went 3-4 in his Medford debut, and OF Matt Taylor and 3B Caleb Palensky had two hits each for the Rogues.
Action continues tomorrow evening at 5:05 p.m. for game two against the Walla Walla Sweets at Harry and David Field.
