
Rogues Drop Another Heartbreaker

MEDFORD, OR - After taking a one run lead late in the game, the Rogues gave up five runs in the ninth to fall to the Walla Walla Sweets 6-5 at Harry and David Field. The Sweets hand the Rogues their fourth consecutive loss as Medford falls to 9-7 overall and 4-7 in West Coast League play. Walla Walla improves to 4-4 in the WCL.
Rogues starter Bret DeRooy pitched eight full innings giving up four hits while striking out six. Pitcher Chad Hockin (0-1) gave up four earned runs on three hits in the ninth to take the loss for Medford in his Rogues debut.
Third baseman Caleb Palensky kept his hitting streak alive at six, going 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI while infielder Jake Whisler added two hits of his own.
Walla Walla starter Matt Hall (1-0) earned the win pitching eight innings giving up three hits and two earned runs.
Medford tried to keep the game alive scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth after a leadoff single by outfielder Quentin Urban was followed by a hit batter (Matt Page) and a balk followed by singles by Palensky and Corey Wynant, but the Sweets held Medford at bay for the win.
The Rogues return to action as they try to avoid the sweep tomorrow night in the final game of the series against the Walla Walla Sweets. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Harry and David Field.
