Bend Elks News Release

Tyler Servais scored from 1st base in the bottom of the 7th inning on the walk-off single from Derek Dixon to give the Bend Elks the 3-2 victory in the afternoon Double Header against the Kitsap Blue Jackets Sunday. Bend dropped game 2 by a 5-3 final.

In game 1, the Elks got a strong start from pitcher Jace Puckett, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 4 in earning the no-decision. Tanner Ring came on in relief and earned the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up 1 hit the rest of the way and striking out 2.

game 1 ended in controversy, as Servais came around the 3rd base and collided with Kitsap catcher Dustin Dhanani, jarring the ball loose and scoring the winning run. Kitsap manager Ryan Parker came out and argued the call as the game concluded, and was ejected from the nightcap of the double header.

In game 2, the Elks had difficulty figuring out Blue Jacket starter TJ Murphy as he threw 4 and 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up only 3 hits and striking out 3.

The Elks trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning before the bats finally came to life, but it would prove to be too little too late. In the 6th, Servais, Grant Newton, Chase Fields, and Turner Gill had 4 consecutive singles, Gill's driving in a run, to make it a 5-1 game. Curtis Wildung then grounded into a double play to plate the 2nd run of the inning, and was followed by Keach Ballard, who had a pinch hit RBI single to reach the 5-3 final.

The Elks will have Monday off before beginning a 6 game road trip, the first three taking place against the Kitsap Blue Jackets in Bremerton, WA beginning Tuesday. Gametime for Game 1 against Kitsap will be 6:35 p.m., and fans can catch the game by going to bendelks.com and clicking "listen live" on the right side of the page.
