Brockton Rox News Release
(Ramapo, N.Y.) - Ryde Rodriguez
stole the show Wednesday night with five RBIs in the seventh and eighth innings as the Rockland Boulders (15-19, 33-47) completed a 6-5 comeback win over the Brockton Rox (21-15, 47-35) to even a three game series at Provident Bank Park.
The game began as a pitchers duel between Bobby Blevins and John Kelly over the first six frames, with the Rox mounting a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on three straight hits from Shawn Williams, Phillip Cuadrado and Mike Torres, along with a sacrifice fly by Melvin Falu.
Kelly tossed 90 pitchers over six shutout innings, while scattering three hits, striking out four and walking one.
Blevins settled in after the second and lasted into the eighth, before allowing three runs without recording an out in the frame.
The Boulders ace gave up five runs on eight hits, while striking out five and walking one.
Rockland
's offense came alive in the seventh in their first crack at the
Brockton
bullpen.
Rodriguez slapped a two-run double that highlighted a three-run outburst and resulted in a 3-2 lead for the Boulders.
The Rox answered immediately in the top of the following frame on Chris Valencia's leadoff blast, which sparked a three-run rally.
Keith Brachold added his league leading 71st RBI with a double that scored Dominic Ramos and Mike Torres plated Brachold for his second RBI of the game, giving
Brockton
a 5-3 lead.
Things swayed one final time in the bottom half of the eighth inning, when Rodriguez stepped to the plate with two on and one out and lifted a home run down the rightfield line, dealing the knock out blow to Jake Hale (0-2) and the Rox.
Hale took the loss and blew his first save in 13 opportunities in the second half.
The entire
Brockton
bullpen struggled in the affair as Jack VanLeur, Jake Loye, Mark Rosen and Hale combined to allow six runs on seven hits in final two frames.
Adrian Martin
(4-1), who at one point was preparing for a save opportunity, relieved Blevins in the eighth and recorded the last six outs to earn the victory.
In his return, Cuadrado impressed at the dish, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The series concludes with the rubber match Thursday evening at
7:05 p.m.
Two southpaws do battle as Dustin Birosak (7-1, 2.73) toes the rubber for the Rox and Ryan Knippschild (1-4, 6.00) takes the ball for the Boulders.
Following the conclusion of the three game set,
Brockton
heads to Yogi Berra Stadium for a weekend match up with the New Jersey Jackals.
