Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA-Fernando Rodriguez battled through five innings and Josh LeBlanc's bloop two-run double in the fifth propelled the Quakes to a 6-2 win over Stockton before 5,095 fans at the Epicenter Friday night. The win was the fourth in six games for Rancho Cucamonga (26-23), while Stockton (22-26) lost its third straight.
The Quakes scored first for the seventh straight game, picking up a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the third. Nate Sutton started the scoring with a solo home run to right, and Cliff Remole then walked and scored two batters later on a base hit by Michael Collins.
Stockton rallied to tie it in the fifth, as RBI singles from David Castillo and Luke Appert evened the score at 2-2. Rodriguez managed to get out of the inning with no further damage however, as he struck out Richie Robnett with runners on first and second to end the inning.
Rancho Cucamonga then put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, as two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two away for LeBlanc. Facing lefty reliever Brad Davis, the left-handed hitting LeBlanc sliced a fly ball to shallow left field. Ports left fielder Cameron Coughlan came charging in toward the line and had the ball in his glove but couldn't hold onto it as he hit the ground, allowing Collins and Drew Toussaint to score and make it 4-2. The Quakes then added insurance runs in the sixth on a wild pitch and in the eighth on an RBI single by Collins. Stockton did not get a hit after the fifth inning.
Rodriguez (5-2) tied Nick Green for the team lead in wins, allowing two runs and six hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out four. Davis (2-1) gave up two runs and four hits in 1.2 innings to take the loss. Quakes relievers Dan Hawkins, Frederic DeLoizaga-Carney and Anthony Ortega combined to allow just three base runners over the final four innings. Offensively Collins finished 3-4 with two RBI, and Remole, Sean Rodriguez and Ryan Leahy all had two hits. Remole extended his hitting streak to a season-high 10 games and Toussaint went 1-4 to push his hitting streak to eight games.
The Quakes will look for a sweep in this three-game series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The game will be carried live on KWRM-AM 1370 and online at www.rcquakes.com. Left-hander Micah Posey (1-4, 4.89 ERA) will start for the Quakes while Michael Rogers (4-2, 3.67 ERA) goes for the Ports. For more information, please call the Quakes at (909) 481-5000.
