
Kris Dufner Retires

VISALIA, CA - Visalia Oaks infielder Kris Dufner announced his retirement today. He had a career year in 2005 for the Oaks, setting career highs in every offensive category complemented by an 18 game hitting streak late in the season. In 2005, he batted .304/.382/.440 with 21 doubles, 7 homeruns and 48 RBI in 102 games. The 26-year-old Philadelphia native was hitting just .175 (14 H/80 AB) in 2006. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays originally selected Dufner in the 38th round of the 2003 June Draft.
The Devil Rays have reassigned infielder Mark Schleicher to Visalia to take Dufner's roster spot. In 20 at bats this season with the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits, Schleicher did not record a hit. He spent 2005 in Visalia where he appeared in 86 games for the Oaks. In 2005 Schleicher hit .201/.240/.344 with 9 homeruns and 38 RBI.
