Rodin's Pair Helps Chicago Clinch Third Straight Amtrak Rivalry

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves fell behind 1-0 midway through the first period, but rattled off four straight goals en route to a 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals in an Amtrak Rivalry contest Wednesday night at the Allstate Arena.

Forward Anton Rodin posted his first AHL multiple-goal game, while center Jordan Schroeder, left wing Mike Duco and right wing Darren Haydar also scored for the Wolves.

With the win, Chicago captured the Amtrak Rivalry trophy for the third straight year. The Wolves lead the series 13 points to 10 over the Admirals with one regular-season meeting remaining.

The Wolves also pulled within one point of Midwest Division-leading Charlotte heading into a road series Saturday and Sunday against the Checkers.

"I thought we played a real good game, but especially in the third," said Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish. "I think we played the best third period of the season and we just wouldn't let ourselves self-destruct."

Milwaukee (30-24-2-2) dented the net first while on the power play at 9:48 of the first period. Right wing Taylor Beck's shot from the near point was fought off by Wolves goaltender Eddie Lack, but the puck sneaked through his pads and trickled over the goal line.

Chicago (32-22-2-3) knotted the game when forward Michael Davies controlled the puck behind the Admirals net and slipped a pass to the slot where Schroeder was waiting alone. He hammered a shot through Milwaukee goaltender Jeremy Smith's legs at 15:51.

The Wolves took a lead 2-1 with Rodin's first marker of the night with 33 seconds remaining in the first period. Rodin skated the puck into the Admirals zone on a three-on-three and his centering pass ricocheted off a Milwaukee defenseman's skate past Smith.

Chicago grabbed a 3-1 advantage 1:43 into the third period. Right wing Mark Mancari whipped a pass from behind the net and Rodin stepped in and sent a wrister that hit off the top of Smith's glove and landed over the goal line.

Smith (23-16-1) stopped 20 of 23 shots.

Duco scored the first of two empty-netters for the Wolves at 17:32 of the third period.

Milwaukee left wing Kevin Henderson closed the Admirals deficit to 4-2 when he poked home a loose puck in the crease at 18:05, but Lack slammed the door the rest of the way and Haydar closed scoring with an empty-net tally with five seconds remaining.

Lack (16-15-3) posted 25 saves in the victory.

The Wolves open their series with Charlotte at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
