Lehner Leads B-Sens to 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Marlies

TORONTO - The Binghamton Senators snapped a two game losing streak, defeating the Toronto Marlies 2-0 in a Wednesday matinee.
Robin Lehner, who rejoined the team in Toronto following a recall to the Ottawa Senators, helped lead the B-Sens to victory making 22 saves to record his first shutout victory of the season.
B-Sens blueliner Mark Borowiecki scored what ended up to be the game winning goal near the midway point of the second period. His rising shot beat Marlies netminder Ben Scrivens at the 9:07 mark. Andre Petersson and Dan Henningson recorded assists on the play.
With nearly 13 minutes remaining in the third period, Nazem Kadri had the best chance to tie up the game for the Marlies. Kadri came skating through the slot and blasted a shot in on what appeared to be a wide open net, but Lehner dove across the crease making a highlight reel glove save to hold Toronto off the scoresheet.
Late in the third with Scrivens pulled for an extra skater, Corey Cowick came up with the insurance goal as he popped the puck in an empty net with just 21 seconds remaining in regulation. Captain Mark Parrish picked up the assist and now has recorded points in back-to-back games.
With the win, Lehner improved his record to 9-16-1. Scrivens recorded 38 saves but fell to 15-13-1 on the season.
Binghamton was 0-for-3 with the man advantage and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The B-Sens now travel to Rochester for the first of back-to-back road games against the Amerks beginning on Friday night. Game time is 7:35 p.m. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM). Voice of the B-Sens Grady Whittenburg will have the call beginning 30 minutes before game time as he hosts Countdown to Faceoff.
