Feb. 21 @ Colorado Eagles, 4-2 Loss - Looking to sweep a two-game set from the Northwest Division's first place team, Rocky Mountain jumped out to a 2-0 lead late in the opening period behind goals from Daymen Rycroft and Mark Smith. The Eagles answered in the final minute of the first and took their first lead of the weekend with two power play markers in the second. STANDINGS UPDATE The Rage still comfortably reside in the fifth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference, 16 points ahead of the sixth-place Rapid City Rush. Rocky Mountain's magic number to clinch its first-ever President's Cup Playoff berth is 10 points. If the club defeats the Rush in regulation during Wednesday's season series finale, the Rage's magic number to reach the post-season drops to six points. Looking up in the standings, Rocky Mountain begins the week eight points behind the fourth-place Oklahoma City Blazers.
ROAD WARRIORS The Rage have finally reached the last leg of a stretch of 12 of 13 games away from home. During the first 10 games of the stretch, which includes the lone game at Broomfield Event Center, the team is 5-5-0. Following this week, Rocky Mountain has just three road games remaining: March 6 at Colorado, March 7 at Amarillo, and March 21 at Amarillo in the regular season finale.
WATSON FINALLY HELD AT BAY Simon Watson was finally held off the score sheet on Saturday for the first time since Jan. 23. He totaled 17 points (10g-7a) over the course of an 11-game point streak which lasted from Jan. 24 - Feb. 20. The longest point streak in team history was a 16-game run put together last season by Tyler Butler.
SHORT-HANDED RECORD Daymen Rycroft's goal on Saturday was the Rage's 13th short-handed marker of the season, breaking the old team record of 12 set last year. Rocky Mountain is currently second in the league in short-handed goals behind the 15 scored by the Texas Brahmas. Four of the team's shorties have come at the expense of the Eagles.
FEELING SHAME Rob Chappell dropped the gloves three times last weekend against the Eagles, giving him 193 penalty minutes this year. He is fifth in the CHL in PIM and now third with 21 fighting majors. Colt King is second on the club with 143 penalty minutes. The Rage's leading scorer crossed the 900-penalty minute threshold for his career when he fought Colorado's Jason Beatty on Saturday.
Individual tickets for the Rage's remaining games at Broomfield Event Center during the month of March are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
