CHL Central Hockey League

Oakley CHL Player/Goaltender of the Week Winners Announced

February 23, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Feb 22nd, 2009 are forward Jason Deitsch of the Texas Brahmas and Kyle McNulty of the New Mexico Scorpions.

Deitsch scored five goals with three assists during the Brahmas three games last week and was a +6. Two of his goals served as game winners for Texas who has taken a firm grip of the Southeast Division leading Laredo by 13 points. The Cincinnati, Ohio native started the week in style with four points (2-2=4) and a +4 plus/minus rating in the Brahmas showdown with Bucks (a 5-2 Texas win). He then scored a goal in Saturday's shootout loss to Odessa and had two goals and an assist in the Brahmas win on Sunday versus Oklahoma City. On the season, the 6-0, 195-pound forward has 16 goals and 18 assists in 24 games played. He has also played in 28 games with the AHL's Houston Aeros totaling 15 points (4-11=15).

McNulty played in all four Scorpions games last week and his strong play since being pushed into the starting spot has propelled his team back into the playoff picture. Last week, the Wakefield, Rhode Island native posted a 3-1 record with big road wins at Corpus Christi and Odessa. He saw a lot of rubber stopping 125 of 138 shots in the four games. On the season, the 5-11, 178-pound goaltender is 6-3-0 with a 2.75 goals against average and one shutout. The Scorpions are just four points behind Corpus Christi for the fifth and final Southern Conference playoff spot.

In recognition of their achievement, both Deitsch and McNulty will receive a special gift from Oakley.
