Elmira Pioneers News Release
Elmira, NY- The North Shore Spirit scored 12 runs combined in the second, third and fourth innings en route to a 13-2 win over the Elmira Pioneers on Saturday night.
With a 1-0 lead in the second inning Brian Macchi of the Spirit made it a four run game with a three-run homerun off Elmira starter Matt Burch. Later in the inning the Spirit went up 5-0 on a solo shot from Michael Granger. In the third inning it was more of the same as the Spirit picked up another four runs on four RBI singles from Joe Hastings, Frank Charles and Yuri Sanchez to make it a 9-0 game. The Spirit took a 12-0 lead in the fourth inning on Hastings' second RBI of the night, a sac-fly to make 10-0. Travis Ogelsby then added two more runs to the Spirit's total with a two-run single, making it 12-0. In the seventh the Spirit would score their final run of the night to give them a 13-0 lead. Elmira would get a pair of runs back in the bottom of the seventh on Steve Checksfield's two-run single, but that would be all for the Pio's as they fell to the Spirit 13-2.
Elmira Starter Matt Burch took the loss allowing 12 earned runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. North Shore Starting Pitcher John Kelly got the win, blanking the Pioneers over six innings of work while striking out five.
