New Haven County Cutters News Release
(Quebec City, Quebec- July 24, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters (27-26) recorded their first win since the All Star Break on Saturday night, defeating the Quebec Les Capitales 6-3. With the victory, the Cutters move back one game over the .500 mark and improve to 2 and 4 in the second half.
In the 2nd New Haven got on the board first as Billy Rich's sac fly scored Darren Ciraco giving the Cutters a 1-0 lead. Ryan Kane then delivered a two-out RBI single giving New Haven a 2-0 lead.
In the third, a RBI single by Darren Ciraco extended the New Haven lead to 3-0. The Capitales battled back in their half of the third, scoring on a RBI single by Buck McNabb cutting the New Haven lead to 3-1.
Leading 3-2 in the fifth, the Cutters received a power surge from an unlikely source as shortstop Jose Mateo launched a three run homer, his first of the year, extending the lead to 6-2. Mateo finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
Wes Mindingall went a season high seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four to earn his first victory of the season as a starter and improve his record to 2 and 3. Quebec starter Jess Turner (1-3) tossed 5 innings allowing six runs, five earned on nine hits. Closer Shane Waroff recorded the final three outs of the game to pick up his eleventh save of the season.
New Haven and Quebec play the finale of their four game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. The game can be heard on flagship station AM 1150 WMRD, with the Cutters Pre-Game Show beginning at 12:50pm.
After every Friday night home game this summer, a fireworks show will light up the New Haven sky.
