New York Boulders News Release
Ramapo, New York - The Rockland Boulders announced today that one-dollar from each ticket sold for the final two home games of the regular season will go to Hurricane Irene relief efforts. To date, over 3,000 tickets have been sold for the games on Sunday, September 4th at 7 P.M. and Monday, September 5th at 2 P.M. The donations will be split evenly between the American Red Cross of Greater New York, Salvation Army Eastern Territory and United Way of Rockland County for their ongoing relief efforts.
"In spite of today's sunshine, we know that the wind and rain over the weekend continues to be a problem for many Lower Hudson Valley residents," said Ken Lehner, President of the Rockland Boulders. "This is just one manner in which we can give back to a community who has been very supportive of the Boulders during our inaugural season."
In addition to the pending donation, the three charities have been invited to collect additional contributions at the ballpark during the two games.
The American Red Cross in Greater New York is a nonprofit humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to individuals affected by disasters, and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
The United Way of Rockland County is a local, independent organization that is run by volunteers and staff who focus on addressing long-term solutions for health and human services problems in Rockland County.
During the height of the storm Sunday, Provident Bank Park served as a staging area for first responders and emergency workers. Town of Ramapo Supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence partnered with Ovations, the official food and beverage provider of the ballpark, to provide meals for over 150 workers who were battling the elements.
