Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

A five run top of the 15th inning at Brent Brown Ballpark Friday night broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Grand Junction Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Orem Owlz.

With the help of two singles and an error in the inning, the Rockies had the bases loaded with one, and Vince Fernandez broke the tie with a 2-run double to right field. The next batter, Roberto Ramos, tripled home two more, and he scored when Jonathan Piron singled with two out.

The runs were the Rockies first since the fourth inning, and came after Orem left the winning run in scoring position in the 12th, 13th, and 14th innings. Reid Humphreys worked around single in the bottom of the 15th to seal the win, getting the Rockies to 18-13 in the second, which keeps them a game up on Ogden for first place in the South Division.

Behind Yohander Quintana six inning start in which he allowed just a run, the Rockies had a 2-1 lead, but Ray Navarro blooped a 2-out single into left-center off JD Hammer, tying the game at two.

Hammer kept the Owlz off the board in the eighth, and after Kenny Oakley did the same in the ninth, the Rockies had the bases loaded with nobody out in the 10th, but couldn't score.

Oakley threw up another zero in the bottom of the inning, with Matt Dennis and Heath Holder combining for four scoreless innings after. Over the last 36 innings, Rockies pitching has allowed just two earned runs.

Fernandez finished with four hits, while Ramos and Manny Melendez added three.

Jose Gomez singled in the first inning, extending his hit streak to 15 games. He now has 91 hits, just one shy of Raimel Tapia for second most in a single season in team history.

The 15-inning contest in the first in team history. The previous long was 13 innings. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
