Midland RockHounds News Release

After Friday's rainout, the San Antonio Missions and RockHounds had some catching up to do, playing a pair of seven-inning games in a Texas League double-header Saturday at Nelson Wolff Stadium. The clubs threw the first pitch at 5:05 and the last at about 10:30, and ended up splitting the double-dip. The RockHounds won the opener, 6-2, with the Missions coming back to take the nightcap, 6-5.

The 'Hounds scored five runs in the fifth inning of the opener, using key hits and aggressive base running to break a 1-1 tie, with Dusty Coleman's two-run double the big swing of the inning. Murphy Smith pitched into the sixth for his fourth win (2.09 ERA) and Paul Smyth went the last two innings for his first save.

Chad Oberacker started the second game with a "Rickey Henderson special," a lead-off home run. That would set a tone, as the teams combined to hit four homers in the game. The Missions hit a pair in a four-run second inning, including Adam Buschini's first of the year, a three-run shot to left. An error by Coleman opened the door in the inning, and all for runs were unearned.

The RockHounds rallied back, with Jake Goebbert's solo homer and Coleman's triple giving the 'Hounds a 5-4 lead. San Antonio tied it in the fifth and won it when Eddy Rodriguez, facing former Mission Mike DeMark. doubled to lead off the sixth,. A pair of wild pitches pushed Rodriguez to third and home for the game-winning run.

South Division

Division-leading Corpus Christi defeated Frisco, 9-3, Saturday in Corpus. The Hooks now lead Frisco and San Antonio by three and the RockHounds by four games.
