Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MO - The Kansas City Royals have announced two moves affecting the Northwest Arkansas Natural roster this afternoon before the team concludes its series with the Springfield Cardinals.

The organization has activated Buddy Baumann off the 7-Day Disabled List and transferred the left-handed pitcher from Class-AAA Omaha to Northwest Arkansas. In a corresponding move, the Royals have placed Outfielder Whit Merrifield on the 7-Day Disabled List retroactive to May 10, 2013.

The transaction come on the heels of last night's 20-inning Naturals victory over the Springfield Cardinals. The Naturals used seven pitchers to complete the game, including position players Mitch Canham and, the winning pitcher, Matt Fields for three innings each.

Merrifield has not played since the unofficial portion of Thursday night's matchup that was rained out. Merrifield left the game in the bottom of the second inning suffering an injury while trying to avoid a collision on a plat at first base. In 24 games this season, the outfielder has posted a .179 batting average with a homerun and six RBI in 78 at-bats playing all three outfield postions for Manager Brian Poldberg.

Buddy Baumann returns to Northwest Arkansas following a stint with Omaha this season entirely spent on the Disabled List. The Billings, MO-native spent the majority of the past two seasons with Naturals compiling a 7-6 record with a 4.19 ERA in 20 starts and 32 relief appearances. He's struck out 126 Texas League batters in 130 1/3 innings.

Baumann also held opposing left-handed hitters to a .215 batting average again over the course of his time with the Naturals.

Baumann will wear uniform number 16.

The Naturals roster remains at the Texas League limit of 25 players.

The Naturals and Springfield resume their series this afternoon at 2:05pm/CT when the Naturals send RHP Noel Arguelles (1-5, 5.00 ERA) to mound to square off against RHP Anthony Ferrera (2-3, 5.24 ERA). The game will be broadcast on MILB.TV and locally on Newstalk 1030 KFAY-AM.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and proud host of the 77th Annual Texas League All Star Game.
