RockHounds Fall 8-3 on Sunday

Midland RockHounds News Release
Oakland A's left-hander Brett Anderson made a rehabilitation start for the RockHounds Sunday afternoon. "Health" was the focus, but San Antonio didn't make the big leaguer feel welcome, racking up six runs on six hits and four walks en route to an 8-3 win.
The pitching "story," though, was San Antonio's Matt Wisler. Making his Double-A debut (and touching at 96 miles per hour on the in-stadium radar gun), Wisler went 5.0 strong innings for the win. Rated the San Diego Padres'' #6 prospect, Wisler allowed three runs on just two hits and two walks.
Wisler allowed a two-run home run to Anthony Aliotti in the top of the first, then settled in, retiring the next eight batters he faced.
The Missions tied the game at 2-2on Jake Blackwood's bases-loaded single in the first, then broke the tie when Adam Buschini (running on a 3-2 pitch) scored on Jeudy Valdez' infield single to shortstop.
In the fourth, Anderson allowed one run before departing (having reached his 80-pitch limit) with two runners on base. Kalian Sams sent reliever Carlos Hernandez' first pitch out of the ballpark to straightaway center field, more than 400 feet from home plate and nearly FORTY feet up. The home run was Sams' fourth in five games since joining the Missions.
South Division
Division-leading Corpus Christi fell at home to Frisco Sunday, moving both the RoughRiders and San Antonio to within two games of the first place Hooks. The RockHounds remain four games behind Corpus.
Kibbles & Bits
- Anthony Aliotti homered twice in the series (including a monster homer over the right field scoreboard Thursday) and remains the Texas League's leading hitter by roughly points. Aliotti is hitting .375 through 36 games.
-Josh Whitaker has been promoted to the RockHounds from Stockton of the (Advanced-A) California League, where he hit .283 with eight home runs and a team high 28 RBI in 30 games for the Ports (managed by former RockHounds manager Webster Garrison). The Georgia native was selected by Oakland in the 25th round of the 2010 draft out of Kennesaw State (GA) University. Josh made his RockHounds debut Saturday night and had an RBI (sacrifice fly).
- Time Flies Department: Saturday's games brought the season total to 35 games played ... the halfway mark of the first half.
- The RockHounds departed for Frisco after Sunday's game to begin a four-game set with the RoughRiders (Monday-Thursday) at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Two of the games (Tuesday & Wednesday) are 11:00 a.m. starts.
