Rockford IceHogs News Release

Moline, Ill.- Three unanswered goals was enough for the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday, as they knocked off the Quad City Mallards 3-2 at the MARK of the Quad Cities, pushing their winning streak to seven straight games. Rookie center Yannick Tifu tallied twice on the power play to lead Rockford to the win.

The Mallards took an early 1-0 lead with a power-play marker from defenseman Tom Galvin 3:42 into the contest. Rockford responded with two goals before the break to take a 2-1advantage. Winger Rob Voltera finished off a nice feed from center Olivier Proulx at 7:48 to tie the game, his first goal of the year. Then on a power play, Tifu out worked the Mallards penalty killers and fired home his 13th marker past Jason Tapp.

In the second frame, Tifu and the Hogs would capitalize on another power-play opportunity. At 10:55, winger Jason Notermann led a 3-on-2 rush with winger Robin Big Snake who fed Tifu for his second marker of the night giving the IceHogs the 3-1 lead, chasing Tapp from the game.

The third period was controlled by the Mallards, but Quad City could only manage one goal on Hogs goalie Michel Robinson. At 13:31 of the final frame, Mallards leading goal scorer Chad Woollard shot in his 25th tally of the season to cut the lead to 3-2.

The shots were even for the game at 28 and Robinson earned the win making 26 stops. The Hogs puck stopper is now unbeaten in 11-straight games, which ties a club-record set by Ronnie Vogel earlier this season. The IceHogs also moved their record to 24 games above the .500 mark for the first time in club history. Defenseman Steve Pelletier chipped in two assists in the winning effort.

Next Home Game: Friday, Feb. 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards engage in a rematch at the MetroCentre. The Zooperstars will be on hand to entertain the crowd during the intermissions.
