Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- After stumbling on the special teams Friday night, the Rockford IceHogs used them to beat the Chicago Hounds on Saturday. A third period power-play goal from defenseman Dan Boeser gave Rockford a 3-2 win over Chicago in front of 4,511 at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Boeser picked up a cross-ice pass from fellow d-man Matt Gens, and the second year blue-liner blasted it past Chicago goalie Marty Magers on the 5-on-3 advantage at 6:18 of the third period. The marker was Boeser's first of the young season and was the only power-play tally for the Hogs in 17 opportunities over the two game weekend.
Rockford jumped out to the early 1-0 lead 4:44 into the contest after winger Chaz Johnson found defenseman Luke Fritshaw streaking towards the net and Fritshaw hammered in his first goal of the season. Chicago got the marker back at 18:05 with a Todd Grant slapper on a 2-on-1 break to even the score.
In the second frame, the Hounds grabbed the 2-1 lead while short-handed. Winger Adam Kostichka beat Hogs goalie Frederic Cloutier over the shoulder at 1:19. But Rockford responded at 5:33 to tie the game at 2-2. Winger Mike Doyle crashed the net after a rush in the Chicago zone and poked in his second tally of the season.
The IceHogs held the Hounds to 0-for-4 on the power play while going 1-for-10. Cloutier picked up his second win of the season after turning away 23 shots. Magers was saddled with the loss despite making 37 saves.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, Nov. 15 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The IceHogs introduce Dollar Days! Fans can purchase soft drinks, hot dogs, peanuts and select candy items for just $1 presented by WXRX-FM 104.9.
