(PORT HURON, MICH.) - Securing their first home victory of the regular season, the Port Huron Flags skated forcefully and executed teamwork to take out the visiting Quad City Mallards, 4-2, in front of 1,517 fans.

Both teams played aggressively in the first period, but it was the Flags who lit up the scoreboard first. At 8:28, Greg Bullock scored his second goal of the year on assists from Chris Pittman and Steve Hildenbrand. An interference call on Ryan Gills, followed closely by holding on Shayne Tomlinson left the Flags down three men to five, and Quad City's Chad Woollard capitalized on the opportunity. He scored at 9:54, assisted by Sean Starke and Greg Detulleo. The Mallards took another 5-on-3 advantage near the end of the period, but the Flags defense shut its opponent down. Port Huron recorded 15 shots on goal during the first, while Quad City had eleven.

The Flags outplayed and outscored the Mallards in the second. Robert Snowball netted his first goal of the year at 4:56, on an assist from Trevor Edwards. Port Huron was penalized just once during the period, a roughing call on Gillis at 18:49. The Flags doubled the Mallards shots on goal, 12 to 6.

A questionable call by the refs at the beginning of the third period gave the Mallards their second goal of the night. It was credited to Matt Radoslovich, assisted by Woolard and Dutelleo, at 3:34. Minutes later, the Flags retaliated. Assistant Ryan Markham, in his first game of the season, outskated the Mallards defense to send the puck past Jason Tapp at 8:58. To seal the deal, Snowball scored his second goal of the night at 16:52, assisted by Edwards and Mark Cadotte. Quad City's nine shots on goal were bested by Port Huron's ten.

Port Huron took all honors for the night, as AT&T's First, Second and Third Stars of the game were awarded to Ryan Markham, Robert Snowball, and Jeremy Tucker, respectively. Tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 29, Port Huron plays the Kalamazoo Wings at home at 5 p.m. Children, 12 and under, in costume receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket at the door. All other costumed fans receive $3 off their ticket purchased at the door.

SKATE WITH THE PLAYERS: On Sunday, Nov. 5, the Flags battle the red-hot Muskegon Fury at McMorran Arena at 5 p.m. After the game, the fans have the opportunity to take the ice with the entire team and skate, chat and collect autographs.
