Rockford IceHogs News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.- The Rockford IceHogs special teams were dominated by the Fort Wayne Komets special units on Friday night as the Hogs fell 7-3 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Rockford's power play was powerless, going 0-for-7 while the penalty kill gave up five (5-for-10) Fort Wayne power-play goals in the loss.

After falling behind 3-0, Rockford attempted three comebacks, all answered by Komets power-play markers. After first period goals from Jonathan Goodwin short-handed at 8:55, Daniel Goneau at 13:35 and again from Goodwin (this time on the advantage) at 15:01, rookie winger Kaleb Betts put the Hogs on the board with his first career goal at 2:05 of second frame.

Fort Wayne regained its three-goal cushion at 9:22 of the middle period after defenseman Guy Dupuis blasted a power-play goal past Hogs goalie Brenden Cuthbert. Rockford cut the lead back down to a pair with a Kevin Ulanski goal at 11:59.

The third period opened with another goal on the power play for Fort Wayne, this time d-man Mike Domkiewicz lit the lamp at 5:23. Betts' second goal of the night made the score 5-3 at 8:03 of the final frame, but that's as close as the Hogs would get. Winger K.J. Voorhees knocked in a goal while the IceHogs were a skater down at 13:27 before Dupuis netted his second of the contest on yet another power play at 16:20.

Despite the four-goal loss, Rockford outshot the Komets 36-29. Fort Wayne goalie Kevin St. Pierre picked-up his third win of the season making 33 saves while Cuthbert got the loss blocking 22 shots. IceHogs center Preston Mizzi made his season debut and added an assist for Rockford, which gave up a season-high seven goals. Fort Wayne winger Bruce Richardson assisted on the Komets first four goals of the game.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Oct. 28 vs. Chicago Hounds. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The pesky Hounds return to Rockford and the IceHogs will have revenge on its minds.
