Rockford captures another victory over Gary

Rockford, IL- Rockford keeps on rolling towards the 2005 CBA Playoffs, as they hosted the team that they are trying to eliminate from the playoff race Tuesday night. Rockford spent most of the game battling the Steelheads close, but a 30-17 third quarter benefited the Bolts in their 124-117 victory over Gary.

Rockford and Gary nearly ended the first quarter tied, but a floater in the lane by Cordell Henry with :01.5 left in the frame gave Rockford the edge 31-29. Rockford dropped the second and fourth quarters by five and three points respectively, and earned five quarter points in the game. The Steelheads' amassed four technical fouls, including two for Shelly Clark, who earned his first with six minutes left in the first quarter for pushing Jermaine Tate after fouling him, and got tossed with :35 left in the third when he was criticizing the officiating from the bench.

Marshall Phillips had a hot shooting night, as he was 8-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc, and 12-of-16 from the free throw line to total up 32 points. Brian Lubeck nabbed a double double with 19 points and 12 boards in the contest, and Cordell Henry dished out nine assists in Rockford's win. Gary outshot Rockford from the floor (57.5% to 48.8%) but only managed to hit 55% of their free throws in the game. Jemeil Rich was 17-of-26 from the field for the Steelheads, and he led all scorers with 39 points.

Rockford hits the road for five games, before they return to the MetroCentre for the season finale. The road trip starts Wednesday night as the Lightning return to the L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon to face the Michigan Mayhem. Last time the Bolts were in Muskegon, they battled back from 20 points down to edge the Mayhem 134-132 on February 25. The Lightning also face off against Gary on March 4, Sioux Falls on March 5, Great Lakes on March 9, and finish out the trip against Michigan on March 10.

The final home game of the regular season for the Lightning is Sunday, March 13, when they host the Dakota Wizards. It will be Fan Appreciation Night at the Rockford MetroCentre, and the first 1,000 fans receive a Rockford Lightning poster in the final poster giveaway of the season.
