Rockets Prepped for B.C. Division Double Header
November 2, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets are on their way to Victoria to take on the Royals in back-to-back nights this weekend starting on Friday night.
Fresh off of a 4-3 overtime loss to the Tri-City Americans, Assistant Coach Kris Mallette says they need a better first period.
"We put ourselves in a hole early by taking five minor penalties in the first period. That made it tough for us to try and build some momentum as we weren't successful on two of those penalty kills. We were still fortunate only to be down 2-1," Mallette said. "I feel as the game wore on we did some good things but we passed up too many opportunities to shoot the puck in the middle frame. The third period was a little loose for the coaches liking but we stuck with it and were rewarded with a late goal. Looking ahead to Victoria, we'll need to make better puck decisions in all three zones. We also need to stay disciplined, take what is given to us and try not to be too fancy."
The Rockets and Royals have only met once so far this season. Victoria defeated the Rockets 8-3 at Prospera Place on October 4th. Following the meetings this weekend, the two don't face each other again until December 30th when the Royals come back to Kelowna.
Kelowna enters Friday night with a record of 7-5-2-1 giving them 17 points. That's good enough for second place in the B.C. Division, three points ahead of the Prince George Cougars.
Victoria comes into Friday night boasting a 12-4-1-0 record that places them first in the B.C. Division with 25 points.
Following Saturday night the Rockets head back home for a meeting with the Vancouver Giants on Friday, November 10th. The next evening the Rockets host the Red Deer Rebels. Both games go at 7:05pm.
Tickets are available for Rockets home games through selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
