Rockets Look to Rebound vs. Hitmen

January 31, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release

The Kelowna Rockets look to get back in the win column when they host the Calgary Hitmen for another Hat-Trick Wednesday matchup.

Head Coach Jason Smith says that the game against Calgary will be big for the Rockets. It's a build-up contest before heading into a double-header in Prince George on Friday and Saturday.

"It's important to build momentum, and the game against Calgary is obviously a game we need to win. It's not just to build momentum going forward, but to bounce back from couple sub-par efforts," said Smith.

"We need to be focused on the things that allow our team to have success which is competing at a high level, and working as a unit of five, not playing individual hockey. If we go out and play the game the right way we will get the results we want."

The Rockets have only faced the Hitmen once this season back on December 17th when Kelowna picked up a 6-2 win at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Kole Lind had three assists in that game, while rookie center Kyle Topping potted two goals. This is the final meeting between the two clubs this season, unless they meet in the WHL finals.

Kelowna heads into Wednesday night's game with a 27-19-4-0 record that has them sitting in fourth place in the B.C. Division with 58 points, 17 points back of the division leading Prince George Cougars.

Calgary is 18-22-7-2 on the season that puts them fourth in the Central Division with 45 points, 19 points behind the division leading Medicine Hat Tigers.

After the Wednesday night showdown against the Hitmen the Rockets are back in action on Friday when they visit the Prince George Cougars on back-to-back evenings.

Kelowna's next home game is February 10th when they host the Vancouver Giants at Prospera Place.
